MEMORY LANE APPEAL
Thank you for showing your support for Flying Doctor Memory Lane, a service we feel privileged to offer.
Memory Lane supports people in end of life care to travel to a place of personal significance. It might be a visit to their family farm, to feel the breeze of the seaside, or simply to admire their own garden, surrounded by their loved ones and pets, one last time.
For someone nearing the end of their life, these trips offer a way to reconnect with their lives and loved ones and to experience the simple joy of being where their heart is. Not only does this mean the world to them, but to their families and friends as well.
“We couldn’t have given Dad this last wish without the Flying Doctor.”
—Daughter of Memory Lane participant
For more than 90 years, the Royal Flying Doctor Service has been committed to the finest medical care for all Australians, at all stages of life. In recent years, and in keeping with this vision, we founded the Flying Doctor Memory Lane service.
Our Memory Lane team is made up of trained health care professionals who volunteer their time to be a part of these special journeys. While our Memory Lane vehicles need to be fitted with essential medical equipment, we’ve also made sure they feel warm and welcoming. Families can choose to listen to their own music while travelling and are gifted with mementoes such as our cosy Memory Lane blankets—precious keepsakes of a special journey.
We need your support
Our service is offered at no cost to families. As an entirely donor-funded service, we wouldn’t operate without the generosity of people like you.
Currently, we provide around two journeys a month and have two dedicated Memory Lane vehicles. We’re eager to do more, but first we need to expand our volunteer Memory Lane team, add to our fleet of vehicles, and cover our growing operating costs.
Your donation will help make this possible.
“As a supporter of Memory Lane, you’ll make an impact on so many people—with laughter, memories, tears, and uniting families. How proud you should feel about yourself because we certainly are amazed and honoured that we have such valuable people in the world giving to an amazing dream.”
—Lynette, Patient Transport Officer with Memory Lane
