From the green valleys of East Gippsland to the wide plains of the Mallee, the Royal Flying Doctor Service Victoria works tirelessly to bring vital health and wellbeing services to rural and remote communities thanks to the generosity of donors and volunteers.
We are well known for our emergency aeromedical work but – particularly here in Victoria – the types of services we offer are as diverse as the landscapes we operate in; from dental care and patient transport through to wellbeing and telehealth. Thanks to your donations, we’re able to offer many of these services to the community at no cost.
But it’s the impact of these services that truly matter. It’s about an individual making it to a health appointment that they would have otherwise missed; it’s about someone finally getting to see the dentist in their community rather than driving the hundreds of kilometres to the next big town; it’s about removing the burden of distance so every Victorian can lead a happy, healthy and connected life.

Continuing Flynn’s legacy
The idea for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) was conceived by Reverend John Flynn in the early 20th century – during a time when there was little to no medical help for people who lived in the bush.
Flynn was witness to the harsh realities faced by rural Australians, where illness or injury was often a death sentence.
His vision to provide a ‘mantle of safety’ for the people of the bush used emerging aviation and radio technology to bring doctors to the outback.
Almost 100 years since our first flight and the modern Flying Doctor continues to uphold Flynn’s legacy by delivering lifesaving care to those who need it most.
